Jade Hubner, best known as a SABC 3 Top Billing Presenter, recently released her first solo track to date. Titled Just Let Me, the track was co-written by renowned lyricist Andrè Scheepers who has also worked with the likes of Bobby van Jaarsveld and Jesse Clegg.
From Press Release:
Just Let Me explores the emotions and mysteries of being in a new relationship, however, Jade connected to the song because of the constant prejudices that come with being in the limelight. “Some people seem to think that just because they have seen me on television or are an acquaintance of mine, that they know me rather let me in and let me be me; then you can see the real me,” adds Jade.
Andre Scheepers – who came highly recommended by a mutual friend– was the perfect fit for the sound that Jade was wanting to achieve for this track. The two went on to write the bridge and complete the song together. “This track of my own, differs greatly from all the collaborations that I have released,” explains Jade. “This song needed to remain raw; almost untouched. Just me and the piano…”
Before the creation of Just Let Me, Jade hadn’t played the piano for over 12 years. Learning to play the song was a challenge which the multi-talented Jade overcame in a mere three hours. When asked about the emotions tied to releasing this single, Jade had this to say: “Words can’t express how special this is to me. My official first song, 15 years of working towards this moment and learning the piano to perform it myself, it’s definitely one of my proudest moments and one of my greatest achievements; right up there with becoming a Top Billing presenter, playing a lead in an international horror film and acting in a television series with Russell Peters.”

You won the Top Billing Presenter Search in 2015. When you entered did you ever thought you would walk away as the winner?
I could picture working for Top Billing and I knew it was where I belonged but I never thought it would actually come true! I didn’t sleep, I put every piece of my soul, energy, and concentration into absorbing and learning as much as I could and as quick as I could, to do the best I could in the competition. I wanted it with every fiber of my being. It still hard to believe I got the coveted spot, every day feels like a dream, still!
Top Billing presenter, musician, actress, model, and MC…. Please share with our readers how you manage it all when most of us can barely make it out of bed in the morning.
I guess I still don’s sleep much 🙂 I write absolutely everything down but it is very hard sometimes. It often feels like my mind is all over the place, thinking and managing 1000 things at a time. I don’t really drink and I love the outdoors, so maybe that has something to do with my abnormal amounts of energy.
Vocally you remind me a lot of Natalie Maines of the Dixie Chicks, who are your role models in the music industry? Anyone that you admired when you were a little girl and who made you say ‘I want to do that when I grow up’?
Thank you. It was probably all the bands I used to listen too, growing up with my dad. I was always drawn to music. I have so many artists I love, it’s hard to list only a few.
‘Just Let Me’ beautifully sums up the biases so many of us have to endure on a daily basis. Was it hard to record such an intimate song and allowing the world to see you in such a vulnerable state?
It is weird but when you get messages from listeners saying how your song helped them through a difficult time, it really makes it worth it. It was also extremely nerve-racking learning how to play this emotional song on the piano. I still have yet to perform and play the piano live…. I’m hoping my fingers won’t freeze up!
Are you working on any interesting projects at the moment whether it be music, acting or presenting?
Yes! I’m working on another great song which will hopefully come out at the end of this year. I’m also going to be on TV a lot more, with more TV shows, a film, a tv series and my previous featured song’s music video, “Better Off by Cosher Feat Jade Hübner” which just got accepted by Mnet.
